Your casino emails: “50% reload up to RM500, this week only.” Deposit RM400, get RM200 extra. Sounds like free money. A reload bonus is worth the bonus minus the expected cost of the wagering: multiply the amount you must bet by the game’s house edge, and at 35x on deposit plus bonus a RM200 reload costs about RM685 to clear on a typical slot. Below we price 20x to 40x with real RTPs from our own slot data, run a simulation, and show what four reloads a month really add up to.

What is a reload bonus?
A reload bonus is a deposit match for players who already have an account. The welcome offer gets you in. The reload is the offer that brings you back, often on a fixed day each week.
Here is how a typical “50% reload up to RM500” works:
- You deposit, usually above a minimum (say RM50).
- The casino adds 50% of that deposit as bonus money, up to the cap. RM400 in gets you RM200; you would need to deposit RM1,000 to get the full RM500.
- The bonus is locked until you bet a set multiple of it (the wagering requirement), on games that count, within a time limit.
- Only then can you withdraw what is left.
The mechanics are the same as a deposit match bonus. The difference is frequency. You see a welcome offer once. You can see a reload every week.
Takeaway: The headline “50%” tells you almost nothing. The wagering requirement decides what it is worth.
The one formula that prices any reload
Every spin returns, on average, the game’s RTP. The rest is the house edge. So the money you are expected to lose while clearing a bonus is simple:
Expected cost of wagering = wagering amount × house edge
Reload value = bonus − expected cost
The wagering amount depends on what the multiple applies to. “35x the bonus” on a RM200 bonus is RM7,000 of bets. “35x deposit + bonus” is 35 × RM600 = RM21,000. Same headline, three times the betting.
For the house edge, we used real numbers. Our data file lists 424 Hotdog Gaming slots (synced 20 October 2026). We calculated:
- Median RTP: 96.74% (house edge 3.26%), for example Fortune Dragon.
- A 96.00% example (edge 4%): Coin Win Express: Hold the Spin.
- A low-RTP example around 94% (edge about 6%): Win Win Won is 94.14%. Fourteen of the 424 slots sit at or below 94%; we use a round 94% below.

RTP is a long-run average, and short sessions swing wildly around it. Our RTP vs volatility guide explains why.
Takeaway: Before you claim, multiply the required bets by the house edge. If that number beats the bonus, the offer is a cost, not a gift.
Reload bonus wagering: 20x to 40x, priced
Example: RM400 deposit, 50% reload, RM200 bonus. Each cell shows the expected cost of the wagering, with the net value (bonus minus cost) in brackets.
| Wagering | Bets required | Median slot 96.74% | 96% slot | 94% slot |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10x bonus (UK cap) | RM2,000 | RM65 (+RM135) | RM80 (+RM120) | RM120 (+RM80) |
| 20x bonus | RM4,000 | RM130 (+RM70) | RM160 (+RM40) | RM240 (−RM40) |
| 30x bonus | RM6,000 | RM196 (+RM4) | RM240 (−RM40) | RM360 (−RM160) |
| 35x bonus | RM7,000 | RM228 (−RM28) | RM280 (−RM80) | RM420 (−RM220) |
| 40x bonus | RM8,000 | RM261 (−RM61) | RM320 (−RM120) | RM480 (−RM280) |
| 20x deposit + bonus | RM12,000 | RM391 (−RM191) | RM480 (−RM280) | RM720 (−RM520) |
| 30x deposit + bonus | RM18,000 | RM587 (−RM387) | RM720 (−RM520) | RM1,080 (−RM880) |
| 35x deposit + bonus | RM21,000 | RM685 (−RM485) | RM840 (−RM640) | RM1,260 (−RM1,060) |
| 40x deposit + bonus | RM24,000 | RM782 (−RM582) | RM960 (−RM760) | RM1,440 (−RM1,240) |
Wagering on the bonus only
This is the friendlier version. At 20x on a median-RTP slot, the maths leaves you about RM70 ahead on average. The break-even sits near 30x. Above that, every extra “x” adds roughly RM6.50 of expected cost on a RM200 bonus.
Wagering on deposit + bonus
This is where reloads quietly flip. Your own deposit gets pulled into the requirement, so the bets triple. Not one deposit + bonus row in the table is positive, even at the median RTP.

Game choice matters as much as the multiple. Moving from a 96.74% slot to a 94% slot nearly doubles the cost of the same offer.
Takeaway: “On bonus” at 20x to 30x can be roughly neutral. “On deposit + bonus” at 20x or more costs more than it gives.
The monthly view: four reloads
A weekly reload is designed to be claimed every week. Here is the same RM400 deposit, four times a month, on the median 96.74% slot:
| Wagering | Deposited | Bonus received | Bets required | Expected cost | Net per month |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10x bonus (UK cap) | RM1,600 | RM800 | RM8,000 | RM261 | +RM539 |
| 20x bonus | RM1,600 | RM800 | RM16,000 | RM522 | +RM278 |
| 35x bonus | RM1,600 | RM800 | RM28,000 | RM913 | −RM113 |
| 20x deposit + bonus | RM1,600 | RM800 | RM48,000 | RM1,565 | −RM765 |
| 35x deposit + bonus | RM1,600 | RM800 | RM84,000 | RM2,738 | −RM1,938 |
| 40x deposit + bonus | RM1,600 | RM800 | RM96,000 | RM3,130 | −RM2,330 |
Look at the “bets required” column. At 35x on deposit + bonus, RM1,600 of deposits commits you to RM84,000 of bets in a month.
One honest caveat. If you would have bet that much anyway, the bonus works like a partial refund. The cost in the table only applies to betting you do because of the reload. The trouble is that wagering requirements are built to make you bet more than you planned.
Takeaway: Judge a reload by the month, not the week. The turnover it demands is the real price.
What our simulation shows
The formula assumes you finish the wagering. Real balances often hit zero first. So on 22 October 2026 we ran our own simulation in Python: 20,000 sessions per scenario, RM2 spins, a simplified medium-volatility slot model (not any real game’s paytable) tuned to each RTP. The RM400 deposit and RM200 bonus sit in one locked balance, and play stops when the wagering is done or the balance runs out.
| Scenario (96.74% RTP) | Sessions that finish wagering | Median cash-out | Average cash-out | Chance to end above RM400 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20x bonus | 76% | RM340 | RM480 | 45% |
| 35x bonus | 50% | RM26 | RM412 | 35% |
| 20x deposit + bonus | 33% | RM0 | RM352 | 26% |
| 35x deposit + bonus | 21% | RM0 | RM282 | 18% |
| 40x deposit + bonus | 17% | RM0 | RM247 | 15% |
Three things stand out:
- The typical outcome is zero. At 20x or more on deposit + bonus, the median session loses the whole RM400.
- Averages hide the shape. The 35x bonus-only offer averages RM412 back, slightly above the deposit, because a few big wins carry it. Half the sessions still end near nothing.
- Losses are capped by your balance. You cannot lose RM685 from a RM600 balance, so the simulated loss is smaller than the formula. On a 94% slot, 35x deposit + bonus averaged just RM128 back from RM400, and only 11% of sessions finished.

Takeaway: Most deposit + bonus reloads end one way: the balance runs out before the wagering does.
The terms that decide what a reload is worth
The wagering requirement is the big one, but read these too:
- Minimum deposit. Compare it with what you would normally deposit. If the bonus needs more, the extra is part of the price.
- Maximum bonus. “Up to RM500” at 50% means RM1,000 deposited to get the full amount. The cap is a target, not a gift.
- Game weighting. If a game counts 10% toward wagering, every RM10 bet clears only RM1. A 35x requirement played on that game becomes, in effect, 350x.
- Max bet while the bonus is active. Usually a per-spin cap; breaking it can cost you the bonus, so check it first.
- Expiry. A weekly reload may give you only days to finish the wagering. Short windows push you toward bigger, faster bets.
- Deposit lock. Check whether you can withdraw your own deposit before the wagering is done. If not, your RM400 is tied to the bonus.

Takeaway: Weighting and expiry can turn a fair-looking 20x into something much heavier. Read them as part of the price.
What regulators say about bonus terms
Great Britain’s regulator has published detailed rules on bonus terms. They do not bind casinos in Asia, but they are a useful benchmark for what “fair” looks like wherever you play.
- A 10x cap. From 19 January 2026, Great Britain’s Gambling Commission limited bonus wagering requirements to ten times and banned promotions that mix product types, such as betting plus slots. Its social responsibility code 5.1.1 now says licensees must not apply wagering requirements over 10 times.
- Why. In its consultation response, the Commission said a 10x limit would “take out extreme levels”, noting some licensees applied up to 60x.
- Your deposit stays yours. UK guidance says players must be able to withdraw their deposit balance at any time, even with a bonus active, and that deposit and bonus funds must not be shown as a single pot (Gambling Commission).
- No terms that drive excessive play. In its 2022 fair terms update, the Commission said it does not expect conditions such as wagering requirements to encourage excessive play.
- Ads must show the catch. UK advertising rules (ASA/CAP) say significant conditions such as deposit or wagering requirements and time limits must be clear and upfront, and an offer should not be called “free” if you must risk your own money.
By that benchmark, a 35x deposit + bonus reload is 3.5 times over the UK cap, before you even count the deposit.
Takeaway: If a reload’s terms would be illegal for a UK licensee, treat that as information about the offer.
Why reloads exist: retention marketing
A casino funds a weekly reload because it expects to earn the cost back. A reload is a reason to deposit again this week, on the casino’s timetable, with a wagering requirement that keeps the money in play.
Research backs up the pull. In a 2014 study in International Gambling Studies, Hing and colleagues found that general-population gamblers occasionally gambled more than intended in response to promotions, and some treatment-seeking gamblers reported increased gambling with bonus offers that required matched deposits.
Reloads sit in the same toolkit as the “we miss you” bonus. Our guide to casino win-back offers shows how those target players who have slowed down. If you want something back on your play, a cashback bonus with low or no wagering is often simpler to price.
Takeaway: A reload is a marketing cost the casino expects to earn back. Claim it only when the maths, and your budget, say yes.
A 30-second check before you claim a reload
- Would you deposit this amount today without the bonus? If not, skip it.
- Find the basis: bonus only, or deposit + bonus?
- Work out bets required: multiple × that amount.
- Multiply by the house edge of the game you will play (100% minus RTP).
- Compare with the bonus. If the cost is bigger, decline.
- Check weighting, expiry and whether your deposit is locked.

Takeaway: Saying no to a bad reload is the only bonus strategy that never loses.
If reloads are setting your deposit schedule
If you deposit because the reload email arrived, not because you planned to, that is worth noticing. Turn off promotional emails and push notifications, set deposit limits, and consider blocking tools. Our guide to blocking gambling walks through the options. Takeaway: You can opt out of the offers that are designed to opt you in.
FAQ
What is a reload bonus?
A reload bonus is a deposit match offered to existing players, for example 50% of your deposit up to a cap, usually weekly. The bonus must be wagered a set number of times before you can withdraw.
Is a weekly reload bonus worth it?
Only if the expected cost of the wagering is less than the bonus. On a 96.74% RTP slot, a RM200 reload at 20x the bonus is worth about +RM70 on paper; at 35x deposit + bonus it costs about RM685 to clear, RM485 more than the bonus.
How do I calculate reload bonus wagering cost?
Multiply the total bets required by the house edge (100% minus RTP). For 35x on a RM600 deposit + bonus at 96.74% RTP: RM21,000 × 3.26% = about RM685.
What is the difference between wagering on bonus and on deposit + bonus?
“On bonus” multiplies only the bonus amount. “On deposit + bonus” includes your own money, so a RM400 deposit with a RM200 bonus at 35x means RM21,000 of bets instead of RM7,000.
Is there a legal limit on wagering requirements?
In Great Britain, yes: since 19 January 2026 the Gambling Commission caps bonus wagering at 10 times. Those UK rules do not apply to casinos licensed elsewhere, so check each offer’s terms.
