Baccarat has one of the lowest house edges in any casino: 1.06% on Banker and 1.24% on Player in the standard eight-deck game, according to Wizard of Odds’ baccarat analysis. Speed baccarat does not change those percentages at all; it changes how many times per hour you pay them. HotStakes checked all 27 StakeGO baccarat tables in our directory: classic and speed tables list exactly the same 1.06%–1.24% edge.

The three main bets and their house edge

Every baccarat round ends in a Banker win, a Player win or a Tie. In an eight-deck shoe, Wizard of Odds calculates the probabilities at 45.86% Banker, 44.62% Player and 9.52% Tie. Because Banker wins slightly more often, casinos charge a 5% commission on Banker wins, which is what keeps a house edge on that bet.

Bet (8 decks) Pays House edge Expected loss per 100 staked Std. deviation per bet
Banker 1:1 minus 5% commission 1.06% 1.06 0.93
Player 1:1 1.24% 1.24 0.95
Tie 9:1 4.84% 4.84 n/a
Tie 8:1 14.36% 14.36 2.64
Player/Banker Pair 11:1 10.36% 10.36 n/a

Sources: house edges from Wizard of Odds, baccarat basics; standard deviations from Wizard of Odds’ house edge reference table. The Pair figure is Wizard of Odds’ eight-deck calculation at an 11:1 payout; lower payouts cost more.

Bar chart of baccarat house edge by bet: Banker, Player, Tie and Pair
Banker (1.06%) and Player (1.24%) are the cheapest bets; Tie at 8:1 costs 14.36%. Source: Wizard of Odds; no-commission figure by HotStakes calculation.

Takeaway: Banker is the cheapest bet on the table, Player is close behind, and the Tie costs between four and fourteen times as much depending on its payout.

Commission, no-commission and other rule tweaks

The 5% commission is the lever. Wizard of Odds’ table of reduced commissions shows the Banker edge falling to 0.60% at 4% commission and 0.14% at 3%. Tables rarely offer that. More common online is a “no-commission” game that recovers the money another way:

  • EZ Baccarat style: if Banker wins with a three-card total of 7, the bet pushes. Wizard of Odds puts the EZ Baccarat Banker edge at 1.02%.
  • “Banker 6 pays half” (often sold as Super 6): a Banker win on a total of 6 pays 1:2 instead of 1:1. HotStakes’ exact eight-deck calculation puts this Banker edge at 1.46%. Our program reproduces Wizard of Odds’ published probabilities (45.8597% / 44.6247% / 9.5156%) and its 1.06%, 1.24%, 14.36%, 4.84% and 1.02% figures exactly, so we are confident in the method.

So “no commission” is not free. The half-pay-on-6 version costs about 0.4 percentage points more on Banker than the classic 5% commission game.

Takeaway: read the table rules screen; a “no commission” label can mean a higher edge, not a lower one.

What our StakeGO data shows

StakeGO supplies the live tables in the HotStakes live casino directory. Its table sheet (synced 19 October 2026) lists 55 tables, 27 of them baccarat: 14 classic and 13 speed. Every single one lists a house edge of “1.06 – 1.24”, the Banker-to-Player range that matches the eight-deck figures above. The sheet does not list Tie payouts, so check the paytable on each table.

StakeGO game type Tables Listed house edge Example table
Classic Baccarat 14 1.06% – 1.24% Classic Baccarat EU01
Speed Baccarat 13 1.06% – 1.24% Galaxia Speed Bac EU03
Roulette (classic + auto) 16 2.7% (some list 2.9% on certain options) Black Roulette ROU02
Sic Bo 2 2.78% (lowest bet) Lotus Sicbo EU01
Dragon Tiger 5 3.73% Dragon Tiger MD01
Blackjack 5 RTP 99.46% – 99.51% Gravity Blackjack IBJ01

Source: StakeGO table sheet, synced by HotStakes, 19 October 2026 (one roulette table has no edge listed). The Dragon Tiger figure matches Wizard of Odds’ Dragon Tiger analysis (3.73% with half-loss on a tie).

Two baccarat tables, Classic Baccarat EU01 and Galaxia Speed Bac EU03 (both streamed from Romania), name BMM Testlabs as the testing lab in the sheet. The other 25 show “NA”, which means the sheet does not say, not that they are untested. Speed tables in the sheet stream from Poland, Macedonia, Georgia and Romania.

All 27 StakeGO baccarat tables, classic and speed, list the same 1.06–1.24% edge. Source: StakeGO table sheet, synced by HotStakes, 19 Oct 2026.

Takeaway: inside StakeGO’s line-up, baccarat’s main bets are the cheapest per hand of any game except blackjack, and classic and speed tables are priced identically.

Speed vs classic: same edge, more hands

House edge is a percentage of each bet. Your expected loss over a session is roughly stake × house edge × number of rounds. Speed baccarat cuts the time per round, so the third number grows.

How much? Wizard of Odds’ comp table uses 72 hands per hour for a traditional baccarat table. For speed formats, Evolution chief product officer Todd Haushalter described the studio’s speed baccarat to Inside Asian Gaming in October 2023 as a product “which is around 20 seconds per round.” Twenty seconds a round, with no breaks, would be up to 180 rounds an hour. That figure is Evolution’s, not StakeGO’s; actual pace varies by table and by shuffle breaks.

Expected loss per hour in speed baccarat vs classic baccarat at 72 and 180 rounds per hour
Same edge, more rounds: a 10-unit Banker bet costs about 7.6 units/hr at 72 rounds and 19.0 at 180. Source: Wizard of Odds, Inside Asian Gaming; calculation by HotStakes.

Using those two paces and a 10-unit flat bet (HotStakes’ calculation):

  1. Banker, 72 rounds/hour: 10 × 1.06% × 72 = about 7.6 units expected loss per hour.
  2. Banker, 180 rounds/hour: 10 × 1.06% × 180 = about 19.0 units, 2.5 times as much.
  3. Player, 180 rounds/hour: 10 × 1.24% × 180 = about 22.2 units.
  4. Tie at 8:1, 180 rounds/hour: 10 × 14.36% × 180 = about 258 units.

These are long-run averages. In any single hour you may be well up or well down, but the more rounds you play, the closer your result tends to drift towards that expected loss.

Takeaway: speed baccarat costs more per hour, not per hand; if you play it, cut your stake or your session time to keep the same budget.

Why no system beats the edge

Road maps, streak-chasing and betting progressions do not change the payout odds of any bet; they only change how much you stake and when. Wizard of Odds is direct about trend-following: “The smart player will bet on the banker every time and leave the score cards alone.” Even that is not a way to win long term: it is simply the bet with the smallest house edge, at 1.06%.

Takeaway: the only levers you control are which bet you choose, how much you stake and how many rounds you play.

A quick checklist before you sit down

  1. Open the table’s rules screen and confirm the Banker commission (5%, or a no-commission variant).
  2. Check the Tie payout: 8:1 costs 14.36%, 9:1 costs 4.84%.
  3. Treat Pair and other side bets as expensive entertainment, not value.
  4. On speed tables, decide your number of rounds or your time limit in advance.
  5. Pick a currency-friendly operator from our MYR casino list or browse vetted operators by currency.

FAQ

Is speed baccarat riskier than classic baccarat?

Not per hand: the house edge is the same, and StakeGO lists 1.06%–1.24% on both. Per hour it is more expensive, because you play more rounds.

Which baccarat bet has the lowest house edge?

Banker, at 1.06% in a standard eight-deck game with 5% commission, according to Wizard of Odds. Player is 1.24%.

Is no-commission baccarat better?

It depends on the rule used to replace the commission. EZ-style pushes give 1.02% on Banker; a half-payout on Banker 6 gives about 1.46%, higher than the standard game.

Can a betting system or road map beat baccarat?

No. Betting systems change your stake sizes, not the odds of each bet, so the house edge applies to every unit you wager.

Baccarat built Macau’s VIP rooms; here is how the Macau junket system collapsed after the Suncity case.
